Fool Me Once, Shame On You…Fool Me Twice…

“One thing you can’t hide – is when you’re crippled inside.”
  –John Lennon

I am outraged. I have just become aware of a series of outlandish statements made by Barack Hussein Obama over the years and I am disgusted. How is it possible that I did not hear about this before now? After reading these, I can now understand why so many on the right despise this President. The arrogance, the immoral thought process, the hostility, the hubris…my God, this is disturbing. Here are just a few choice quotes I’ve come across while researching:

“I have enormous personal ambition. I want to shift the entire planet. And I’m doing it. I am now a famous person. I represent real power.”

“The problem isn’t too little money in political campaigns, but not enough.”

“Give the park police more ammo.”

–responding to a  reporter who asked what to do about the homeless a few days after the police shot a homeless man in front of the White House.

“This is one of the great tragedies of the Bush administration. The more successful they’ve been at intercepting and stopping bad guys, the less proof there is that we’re in danger…. It’s almost like they should every once in a while have allowed an attack to get through just to remind us.”

“It doesn’t matter what I do. People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say. It doesn’t matter what I live.”

–do as I say and not as I do?  Really, Mr. President?

“I read Men Who Hate Women and the Women Who Love Them and I found frightening pieces that related to…my own life.”

–So you are a misogynist Mr. Obama?

“I’m not a natural leader. I’m too intellectual; I’m too abstract; I think too much.”

“These people are sick. They are so consumed by their own power, by a Mussolini-like ego, that their willingness to run over normal human beings and to destroy honest institutions is unending.”

-This is a quote describing his opposition party. I know I’m pretty partisan, but this is not dignified nor appropriate rhetoric a high-ranking American political figure should be espousing in public.

“If the Soviet empire still existed, I’d be terrified. The fact is, we can afford a fairly ignorant presidency now.”

“The idea that a congressman would be tainted by accepting money from private industry or private sources is essentially a socialist argument.”

-meaning that it is perfectly okay to accept tons of money from companies or businesses to do their bidding for them?

“Kill jobs and lead to a recession, force people off of work and onto unemployment and will actually increase the deficit. Gosh, how wrong can a person be?”

-this was his version of what would happen if President Clinton’s 1993 budget bill passed. This bill initiated the longest period of growth in our  history. How wrong was he? Scary.

Primary mission, Advocate of civilization, Definer of civilization, Teacher of the rules of civilization, Leader of the civilizing forces.”

-words he actually used to describe himself and his role in the world. How does that head of his even fit through a door?

“The most serious, systematic revolutionary of modern times.”

-more self-described bombast from this egomaniac.

Now, if those quotes aren’t enough to make you want to tear your freshly applied OBAMA 2012 bumper stickers off your car, I can tell you that I am also completely stunned that no one in the Republican Party has made an issue out of the fact that Obama was actually afforded deferments during the Vietnam War and yet seems quite comfortable sending troops in harm’s way.

I am also dumfounded that while I hear the conservatives lambast the President for being a “socialist”, which is completely overused “Republispeak” at this stage of the game, I really can’t believe that they do not harp on this little nugget. It seems Obama was actually officially reprimanded by the House of Representatives in 1994 for “ethical wrongdoing.” It was the first time in history a Speaker was reprimanded for wrongdoing. It was only because of fancy political maneuvering until he reached a plea agreement that he managed to not get censured. Outrageous!

He was also investigated for using public finance funds as his own personal stash of cash for his own political goals. It was determined by an ethics committee that he had “mislead” them and as part of his reprimand he was fined 300,000 dollars!

Talk about not knowing how to deal with a budget, he also once bounced 22 government checks!

Okay, okay. I’ll stop now. I am pretty sure most of you understand that the person those scary and outrageous quotes are attributed to are not from President Barak Obama’s mouth, but are instead from Newt Gingrich’s lips, the GOP flavor dujour. I think you realized that Obama was not reprimanded by the House for being unethical. I’m pretty sure many of you caught on quickly.

But I bet if I sent this in an email to a voter somewhere who wants to cast a vote for Newt Gingrich and is not very well-informed or over the age of 30, he would be chomping at the bit eager as heck to tear Obama a new one. Oh, I bet he’d throw a gargantuan hissy fit, start  frothing at the mouth and broadcasting far and wide that Obama was unfit to be president if even a scintilla of those things were true. He’d hit up every person in his email address book and send this information off in a nano-second. He could get one of those chain-mail emails started where each friend forwards it to more friends and then the huge lie becomes truth in who knows how many minds?  The subject line might read:

But sadly… truthfully… these are but samplings of Newt Gingrich’s inflated ego and diabolical and immoral behavior run amuk, recorded over time for posterity.

Of course, the extramarital affairs he engaged in while calling for Clinton’s resignation have been conveniently forgotten by the GOP, I guess. The fact that he was so horribly cruel and lacking any shred of human decency when he asked his cancer-ridden wife recovering from surgery in a hospital bed for a divorce must be morally acceptable with the right.  He also said of her when he was considering a run for the Whitehouse, “She isn’t young enough or pretty enough to be the President’s wife.” He also left another wife (having yet another affair) after she was diagnosed with an illness. At least he’s consistent, right? Adding insult and hypocrisy to injury, Mr. “always preaching about societal values and their decline” Gingrich also refused to make child support or alimony payments to the point where a church had to take up a collection for them and he had to be taken to court to pay up. Family values indeed! Decline of societal responsibility you bet!

So where is the moral outrage for this presidential front-runner? If Barak Obama had done or said a fraction of this stuff, he would have been run out of town on a rail amid pitchforks and torches long ago. Newt gets a pass? Why?

Is it because you all so passionately despise the flip-flopping mannequin–anybody BUT– Mitt Romney and can’t find anyone else suitably conservative to cast your vote for?

Is it because the Republican field has been so littered with bumbling nincompoops and buffoons like Palin, Bachmann, Perry, and Cain that anyone with an IQ over 90 seems exciting—however lacking they are in morals or leadership ability? “We actually have a candidate who isn’t a drooling dunce! Yippee! Hurrah!”

Is it because Ron Paul is too much of a scary wing-nut for the evangelicals with his views on prostitution and marijuana and other touchy areas that they like to hold above each candidate’s head like the Sword of Damacles?

Is it because Jon Huntsman had the audacity to be even-keeled and thoughtful in his acceptance of climate science? Or is it because they don’t like it when the name “John” does not have an “h” in it?

Is it because the voters of this country have no attention span and can’t quite recall what Gingrich did to shut down our government unnecessarily– AND WAS THE BIGGEST CONTIBUTER TO Washington gridlock during that period ? Perhaps the newbie conservatives are too young to know this history?

Is it because the “family values” wing of the GOP only cares about telling other people what their “family values” should be, but don’t mind if their “family values” candidate is a serial cheater and liar and wage withholder from his family?

What is it?

I know what Newt is counting on.

He’s counting on the American people being three things: Stupid, gullible, and forgetful.

He wants you to buy his line that he was not paid a million-and-a half dollars to lobby for Freddie-Mac—the entity he blames for the recession– by using his influence as a powerful Washington insider. He wants you to believe him when he says that he was an “historian” for them. Stupid is as stupid does.

He wants you to believe that his (numerous) flip-flops on climate change depending on what party was holding the Whitehouse is simply him changing his mind after studying the issue. Swallow hard.

He also wants you to accept that his support of individual mandates for health insurance, of which he has been a staunch supporter of since the 1990’s when it was a Republican idea, is nothing like Obama’s health care plan. Get the hook, line, and sinker out…bite down.

He wants you to forget the 1990’s and his dubious personal and political behavior which ended with him resigning the office of Speaker of the House in disgrace, his own party blaming him for their decline.

Denial just ain’t a river in Egypt as they say. Denial lives and breathes in the beating heart of the GOP. Oh, I know, we all realize the present GOP doesn’t officially have a heart.

Things are attributed to Obama which are wholly untrue like he’s a Muslim, not born here, blah-blah,blah and yet Gingrich’s massive missteps and immoral and inappropriate behavior both personally and while in office are forgotten, brushed off, or simply ignored by conservatives. See how easy this is, Newt?

Newt will be the first to tell you he is a very, very, brilliant man with a million- and- one spectacular ideas. Newt will be the first to tell you that you should blindly follow him like the Pied Piper because he knows better. Newt will be the first to tell you he’s smarter than you. Newt is reaching out to those “low-information” voters on the right and it looks like they are reaching out to him.

I guess I’m just too dumb to vote for him. I can really live with that.
